Lady Ravens Pull Away Late in Win over Blue Dragons
Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball team defeated the Hutchinson Blue Dragons 68-39 behind a quality team performance on both ends of the floor. With the victory, Coffeyville improves to a 12-3 overall record on the season, including a 6-3 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play. The Lady Ravens currently sit in a tie for fourth place in the Division 1 Women's Standings.
The Ravens started the evening strong on the offensive end, scoring 21 points in the opening quarter on 52% team shooting. CCC controlled the paint all evening long, winning the rebound battle 47-26, and also winning the points in the paint battle and the second chance points.
Sophomore guard Karliey Parker finished with a game-high 19 points, along with nine rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Esme Smith had 15 points and seven rebounds, while Isabella Pehrson finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
The Red Raven defense held the Blue Dragons to 26% shooting as a team, and just 20% from beyond the 3-point line. The talented freshman duo of Whitney Brown and Ka'Myra Barber were held to just 11 points combined on 4-16 shooting.
It is the third consecutive win for the Lady Ravens over Hutchinson. Coffeyville returns to the court on Saturday, January 10th, with a road game against the Pratt Beavers. Tipoff in Pratt is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
