#25 Red Ravens Head Into the Holiday Break With a 72-55 Victory Over the Colby Trojans
Coffeyville, Kan. - The #25 NJCAA-ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball team defeated the Colby Trojans 72-55 behind a big shooting night from Red Raven sophomore Hallie Kitchen. With the victory, Coffeyville will end its fall semester with an overall 11-3 record, including a 5-3 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) matchups. The 5-3 KJCCC record currently has Coffeyville in fifth place in the 13-team KJCCC Division I Women standings.
The Red Ravens set the tone in the opening quarter, outscoring Colby 23–10 to take control of the game. Coffeyville continued to apply pressure in the second period, extending the advantage to 40–22 at halftime. Colby showed more offensive rhythm in the second half, particularly in the third quarter, but Coffeyville answered every run and closed the game with a 19-point fourth quarter to seal the 72-55 victory.
Sophomore Hallie Kitchen led Coffeyville with a game and career high 21 points, hitting 5 of 6 from behind the arc and going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. Sophomore Aubrey Hishaw followed with 18 points and six rebounds, while sophomore Karliey Parker added 13 points and freshman Isabella Pehrson chipped in nine points. Coffeyville's efficiency at the free-throw line — 21 of 25 (84 percent) — proved to be a key difference. As a note, over the last five games, each of the Red Ravens' starters has taken a turn as the team's game high scorer.
Looking at other stats in the box score, the Red Ravens also controlled the glass, edging Colby 35–34 in rebounds, and took care of the basketball with just seven turnovers.
Coffeyville will return to the court on Wednesday, January 7th, with a road game matchup against the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. Tipoff in Hutchinson is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
