The Red Ravens 17 game win streak was snapped Monday night in the Hartman Arena to the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. #3 Coffeyville had a tremendous effort being behind multiple times and having two different buzzer beaters send the game to double overtime, but would lose the Region VI Semi Final contest 94-89.
Coffeyville knocked off Hutchinson earlier in the season at Nellis Hall defeating them 78-67. The game was close all night both teams going back and forth scoring buckets. It would take two overtimes for a winning team to be determined.
In the first half of the game it was fairly close. Hutch was shooting the ball very well at 51% compared to Coffeyvilles 35%. Despite shooting low Coffeyville still held a one point lead over the Blue Dragons ending the half down 40-39. Tevin Brewer and Marvin Johnson both had great first halfs leading the team with 13 points by Brewer and 10 points by Johnson.
The Ravens second half was much like the first. The Ravens got good looks from the field but only shot an unusual 37.9% from the field. Manny Crump scored 5 points in the second on 2 offensive rebounds. Hutchinson a had a 72-69 lead with 17 seconds in regulation, the Red Ravens ran the clock for the final play. Marvin Johnson got inside to score and was fouled with 0.2 second to play. After a lengthy video review, the shot counted and Johnson hit the free throw to force overtime.
In the first overtime the Ravens, coming off a big, last second bucket, With 13 seconds left in the first overtime, Tyler Brown of Hutchinson hit 1 of 2 free throws to give the Dragons a 83-81 lead. Tevin Brewer, followed his own missed shot on a drive to the hoop as the buzzer sounded, knotting the score at 83 and forcing a second overtime.
In the second OT, the Ravens would put up 6 and unfortunately, lose a hard fought game.
The loss drops Coffeyville to 29-3 on the season. The Ravens will wait to see if they get an At Large Bid to the NJCAA National Tournament held in Hutchinson, Kansas.
