#12 ranked Red Ravens Earn Their 3rd Ranked Victory of the Year With a 34-21 Defeat of #9 Iowa Central
Coffeyville, Kan. - On a rainy Homecoming afternoon, the #12 ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team defeated their third ranked opponent of the season with a 34-21 defeat of the #9-ranked Iowa Central Tritons. With the victory, Coffeyville improves their record to 4-2, including a unblemished 3-0 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC).
The game kicked off with a solid first quarter for the Red Ravens, highlighted by freshman Aidan Burgess's 26-yard field goal, giving Coffeyville an early 3-0 lead. The Ravens quickly built momentum in the second quarter with a 44-yard pass from freshman quarterback Mac Armstrong to freshman tight end Ryley Zalusky, followed by a 3-yard rushing touchdown by sophomore Steven Robinson, pushing Coffeyville's lead to 17-0. The Red Raven explosive offense kept rolling as Armstrong connected with freshman wide receiver Michael Kenon for a 54-yard touchdown, making it 24-7 before halftime.
Iowa Central responded in the third quarter scoring a touchdown right at the end of the third quarter, however, Coffeyville maintained a 24-14 advantage heading into the final period. In the fourth quarter, Robinson added another rushing score from 3 yards out, and Burgess sealed the game with a 29-yard field goal, bringing the final score to 34-21 in favor of the Red Ravens.
Offensively, Coffeyville amassed 357 yards, with a balanced attack that included 258 passing yards and 99 rushing yards. Quarterback Mac Armstrong led the air attack with 258 yards and two touchdowns, while Steven Robinson contributed 61 rushing yards and two TDs. Coffeyville's recievers making key plays included Michael Kenon catching a 54-yard touchdown and Ryley Zalusky adding a 27-yard score.
Coffeyville's defense posed problems for the Tritons all afternoon, sacking the Iowa Central quarterback twice and forcing four tournovers including three lost fumbles, as well as a critical interception by sophomore defensive back Brandon Heyward that helped Coffeyville maintain control of the game in the second half.
Coffeyville will be back in action this week as they will head to Hutchinson Kansas on Saturday, October 25th to take on the #1-ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons. Kickoff in Hutchinson is set for 7:00 p.m.
