Raven Baseball Season Comes to End in Plains District Tournament
Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven baseball team had their season come to an end in the opening round of the Plains District Tournament, falling in a winner-take-all Game 3 to Seward County.
CCC finished the season with a 27-30 overall record, and 15-17 in conference play, finishing in fifth place in the KJCCC East Division.
The Ravens dealt with injuries in the lineup for a majority of the season, and eventually turned to freshman Nicholas Westendorp and sophomore Webb Fern to lead the pitching staff. Both turned in strong seasons, with Westendorp being the first KJCCC East Pitcher of the Year for the Ravens this century, and Fern being named all-conference Honorable Mention.
At the plate, the Ravens were led by one of the league's best infields, with first baseman Shawn Bareno hitting .367 with 38 runs batted in, shortstop Kyle Provence batting .355 with 17 stolen bases, and third baseman Max Irwin hitting .349 with a team-high nine home runs and 44 runs batted in.
Four Ravens earned all-conference honors this season, with Westendorp first-team all-league, and Provence, Fern, and designated hitter Brady Shackelford all receiving Honorable Mention.
The 2027 Raven baseball team will feature some familiar faces, with Westendorp, Provence, Irwin, infielder Harrison Barham, catcher Carson Beck, pitcher Kamden Neal, and outfielder Kye Kozak among the key returners.
