Dance team proves superior at camp

Nine of the Lady Red Ravens Dance team attended the Varsity Spirit Universal Dance Association (UDA) camp July 22-23 at University of Central Missouri (Warrensburg, Mo.).

While at the camp, the dancers took classes from some of the top dancers in the country.  Each member of the team received valuable instructions throughout the camp, focusing on technique, game day preparation, and various routines.

"Attending the UDA camp is always the best way to start a season.  Not only does it help the new team really bond and come together, but it also pushes them to grow and increase their skills as dancers," head dance coach Jessica Wallis said.

Showing the teams talent, the dance team brought home a Superior Rating on Game Day Performance Evaluation as well as the Program Improvement Award.  The Program Improvement Award measures how much a program improves from the previous year to the current year.
The team also brought home the Most improved Award, measuring the growth and improvement from start to finish of the camp.

"This year, UDA changed the whole format of the camp," Wallis said.  "In the past we would only be evaluated on our Fight Song performance; however, this year we were evaluated on an entire Game Day Performance [includes Fight Song, Time Out Dance, and Sideline Dance] that they had to learn and perfect in less than 24 hours."

The Dance team will bring six new routines to be performed for the fans of Coffeyville Community College.

"I can't say enough about how hard these young ladies worked, and how well they represented Coffeyville," Wallis said.  "I think great things are in store for this team and I can't wait to see what else we can accomplish this year."
