Red Ravens Volleyball Takes Down #8 Cowley

#5 Red Ravens 3 (22-1; 6-0 conference) #8 Cowley 2 (19-4; 4-1 conference)

The Red Ravens hosted the Cowley Tigers in a battle of the top teams of the NJCAA.

The Tigers came into the gym with a fire as they took set one from the Red Ravens.  With the crowd pulling for the ladies, head coach Delice Downing rallied her team in between sets.

In the second set, the Red Ravens handed the Tigers a lopsided loss 25-13.  The ladies responded with a fury of blocks, spikes, and kills.

Heading into the third set, the crowd was going wild.  Chants echoed throughout the gym shaking the glass doors. The noise and intensity seemed to take the Tigers by surprise as they found themselves down 20-10 quickly.  Tiger's head coach Steven Gream called a timeout at what proved to be the perfect time.  The Tigers surged to close the gap 20-19, but the Red Raven team was able to stave off any comeback as they took the third set 25-23.

With momentum swaying towards the Tigers, the fourth set proved to be just as exciting as the previous.  The Tigers jumped out to an early lead that they wouldn't relinquish.  It was a back and forth battle, but for every point the Red Ravens would put on the board, the Tigers responded with two or three of their own.  Eventually, the Tigers took the fourth set 25-21 to force a decisive fifth set.

Being in the fifth set wasn't a new situation for the Red Ravens to be in, but it is one they haven't been in since they played Northeastern Oklahoma on September 18th and was only their fifth time all year.  They responded.  The Red Ravens defended their home court valiantly as they fought their way to a 15-12 fifth set victory.  The crowd erupted with excitement as the team overflowed with joy.

This victory marks a 22 game winning streak for the Red Ravens and cements their ambition and drive to be one of the best teams in the country; and eventually, the last team standing.
